Bishop Monforton 2018 Ordinary Time Message
Jesus replied, “The first is this: ‘Here, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.’” (Mk 12:29-31)
These words from Jesus highlight the fact if we embrace both of these Commandments, especially during this extraordinary Ordinary Time, you and I are not far from the kingdom of God. Jesus echoes the words from The Book of Deuteronomy by stating that the foundation of all the commandments lies in our relationship to God. Perhaps you and I can focus on how we can delve deeper into our relationship with our lord Jesus Christ, a relationship which clearly is demonstrated by how we relate to others.
Our love for God finds its expression in our love for one another. In turn, may we recognize that our love for one another receives its foundation and integrity in the love that God has given us.
