80th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diocese of Steubenville

Bishop Edward M. Lohse celebrated a Mass in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Diocese of Steubenville at Holy Rosary Church, Steubenville, Oct. 21, 2024. A plenary indulgence was available. During Mass, the bishop presented four "Caritas" medals to Colleen A. Bahen, Thomas H. Hisrich, and Deacon Randall and Mary Ellen Redington. Bishop John King Mussio, Steubenville's first bishop, initiated the diocesan medal in 1955 "to recognize people who exhibit exceptional action through exemplary public and private Catholic life, contribution to diocesan life, and promotion of faith." A light reception followed in the church hall, and a presentation from the diocesan Office of Archives was on display.
In addition to the Mass, Bishop Lohse blessed the new Immaculate Heart section at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville. The section was named after the patroness of the diocese in honor of the 80th anniversary.Coverage of the 80th anniversary celebration was included in the Oct. 25 edition of The Steubenville Register.
