Bishop allows pastors the option to distribute the Precious Blood
STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville Bishop Jeffrey M. Monforton issued a decree April 12 revoking the suspension of the distribution of the Precious Blood to the faithful. The decree became effective April 14, Holy Thursday.
The decree reads: “It is at the sole discretion of the pastor whether the Precious Blood is to be distributed or not. Moreover, if the pastor deems in the affirmative, it is the choice of the individual member of the faithful to receive or not receive the Precious Blood.”
Bishop Monforton promulgated the “Norms for the Resumption of Public Masses” May 12, 2020, as particular law for the Diocese of Steubenville due to the coronavirus pandemic. He revoked and abrogated the norms June 2, 2021, except for the suspension of the distribution of the Precious Blood to the faithful.
According to the decree, Bishop Monforton has “received requests to once again allow the distribution of the Precious Blood to the faithful.”
